Natural Relief for Excema

Excema is quite common, affects males and females and
accounts for 10 to 20 percent of all visits to dermatologists. Also known as atopic dermatitis, eczema may occur at any age, but it most often begins in infancy and childhood.

Scientists estimate that 65 percent of patients develop symptoms in the first year of life, and 90 percent develop symptoms before the age of 5. Onset after age 30 is less common and is often due to exposure of the skin to harsh or wet conditions. Eczema is a common cause of workplace disability. People who live in cities and in dry climates appear more likely to develop this condition and seek excema remedies.

Identifying an Intentional Burn Victim

The saddest burn cases are those where an abuser inflicts the burns intentionally. The victim is typically one who is defenseless such as a child under the age of ten or an adult that is unable to fend off such attacks.

Most victims of such cruelty are unable to speak for themselves and therefore rescue personnel must be able to identify these abuse burn victims. This identification may not be obvious, and it should not be assumed that those in charge of the care of the individual are the one doing the abuse.

Relieving Burn Pain

Burns can come from a variety of sources. You can scald yourself on hot water, catch the rack in your oven with your arm when pulling a cake out, or touch a fireplace iron that has gotten too hot. This can cause a varying amount of burning, pain and discomfort.

The best treatment for a burn is to avoid getting burned in the first place, but of course that is easy to say after a burn has already happened. If you do find yourself becoming scalded or singed, the faster you start treatment on the burn the better it is for your skin and your comfort.

Symptoms

The majority of burns that you will receive around the house will be first and second degree burns. Usually not serious, these burn will cause blistering, pain, and redness and can be treated using traditional first aid methods.

Thermal Burn Treatment

Treating a thermal burn is different from treating a chemical burn or electrical burn. The skin coming into contact with a heat source such as a hot metal, flame, or a hot surface, solid or liquid, causes a thermal burn.

It is important to first remove the individual from the heat source so that the danger from the source can be stopped. Instruct or remind someone to STOP, DROP and ROLL if they are on fire and not already doing so. Use a heavy blanket, coat or rug to put out any flames for an individual unable to STOP, DROP and ROLL.

Cooling Down

Only after individuals are removed from the source of heat, can the heat from the burn be cooled down to prevent further damage to the skin. To cool down the affected skin area you can run cool water over the skin if there is no break in the skin. You can also soak the area in cool water.
